Freesat HD PVR with internet streaming
On the surface the EchoStar SlingLoaded HDS-600RS is just an ordinary Freesat HD PVR. However, it's loaded with 'Slingbox' technology, so you can watch your TV on multiple devices via an internet connection.
EchoStar SlingLoaded HDS-600RS explained.
PVRs are simple devices. They record TV onto a hard drive and if, like the EchoStar SlingLoaded HDS-600RS, a PVR has two tuners, it'll record one channel while you watch another. Where the HDS-600RS differs is that inside it has what EchoStar calls 'SlingLoaded TV anywhere'. In practice this means the HDS-600RS has a very useful additional function: it streams your TV to multiple devices, including PCs, mobile phones (Android and iPhone), and tablets (iPad and tablets running Android). SlingLoaded does this using your home internet connection, and it works on wi-fi and 3G internet connections. Anywhere you can get a decent internet connection you can watch TV as if you were at home sitting on the sofa.
EchoStar SlingLoaded HDS-600RS specs
Inside the HDS-600RS is a 500GB hard drive and twin Freesat+ HD tuners. According to EchoStar, it can record 300 hours of standard definition TV and 100 hours of high definition broadcasts. HD channels on Freesat include BBC One HD, BBC HD, ITV1 HD and (from April) Channel 4 HD.
Connections on the HDS-600RS include HDMI for a high definition connection to your TV, two Scart sockets (one to your TV, one for a VCR), two USB ports, stereo audio out, and optical audio out for connecting to a surround sound speaker system.
For the place shifting a Sling 'application' for devices running IOS (iPad, iPhone etc.) or Android is available for £19.99 to enable you to stream your live or recorded TV from the main box.
The mobile service works over 3G or Wi-Fi so you can stream or control the box from anywhere. Another thing to note about the app is that it streams only in standard definition.
